BE CONSTANTLY RENEWED
(“Wait” Upon The Lord)

TO THE BIBLE
Isaiah 40:30-31 “Even the youths shall faint and be weary, and the young men shall utterly fall, but those who wait on the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint.”

LET’S TALK
The word translated “renew” above actually means “to bring back to life.” The picture is that of a tree that’s been hewed and expected to die, but suddenly, there’s a change and it’s brought back to life. It’s a kind of transformation where “death” is replaced with a new life. The prophet likens this to what happens as we “serve” the Lord; as we work in His vineyard, our strength is renewed! Weakness is replaced with His divine might. It’s a kind of exchange, where you give your weakness to Him and you take His strength in place of weakness. Hallelujah! That’s the reason one of the synonyms of the Hebrew word translated as “renew” is “substitute”; it’s an exchange. So, your weakness is given up for His strength.

That’s God’s plan for you; He’s the One who gives power to the weak: “He gives power to the weak, and to those who have no might He increases strength” (Isaiah 40:29). When you walk in sync with God’s Spirit, you’ll never run out of strength. Paul said, “For which cause we faint not; but though our outward man perish, yet the inward man is renewed day by day” (2 Corinthians 4:16).

As you “wait” on the Lord, working for and together with Him, there’s a renewal of your strength; you’re constantly refreshed, and rejuvenated by the Spirit of God, through the Word. This is what keeps a Christian fresh, and full of joy in the midst of turmoil and challenges; always on fire for Jesus.
